There have been MANY questions asked over and over again about Conventional Weapons and I will try to answer them all in this post. The answers might get a bit repetitive, but I am trying very hard to cover everything that needs to be covered. If you have a suggestion for the post, you may send me an ask here and I will try to answer it and update this post accordingly. Please reblog this so that it will be spread around and everyone will be able to know as much information as possible that is available to know!
What is “Conventional Weapons”?
Conventional weapons is 10 songs that are going to be released over the course of the next five months, two songs per month. These songs were previously written/recorded (but may have been reworked before the band decided to put it out into the world) in 2008-2009, when the band was writing for Danger Days. The band scrapped this record when they realized they were not going in the desired direction and wrote Danger Days instead. You can pre-order two different versions of the box set via the MCR website, here & here. The box sets are exactly the same, except the first link is to the version of the box set where you can choose to have the vinyls delivered to you on their respective release dates, and the second link is to the version of the box set where you can get the vinyls delivered all at once on February 5th, the last day of the release dates, when the two final songs will be released. Other than that, you get everything else exactly the same and with both versions you will get a digital copy of the songs on their release date. You also get a poster with both versions, the poster is the same for either version. Shipping is slightly cheaper for the version that you get the vinyls all at once because you don’t have to pay for shipping each vinyl separately. One shipment = cheaper than 5 shipments. The box set costs roughly $50 without shipping or tax.
Will the tracks be released digitally also?
Yes. You will be able to purchase the tracks separately via itunes, amazon mp3, and other online mp3 retailers.
Do I have to buy the box set to get the digital track?
No, you will not need to. You can buy them individually online via itunes/amazon/etc.
Do I need to buy the box set in order to get the vinyls?
Nope! The vinyls themselves will be released individually as well, for $8(without shipping and tax). For instance, you can pre-order the first vinyl here, and with this vinyl comes the digital mp3 version as well.
What other merchandise will there be that has to do with Conventional Weapons?
So far, there is a shirt that is up for pre-order and it is called “Number One T-shirt”. It has the design of the graphic for the first vinyl on it. It costs $20(without shipping and tax) and you can pre-order it through this link. As of this post, it is unknown as to if more shirts/shirts with different will be released with the rest of the vinyl releases. It is also unknown as to if each vinyl will have a different graphic, but they probably will.
I don’t have a vinyl player and I want to have this record in a digital CD form. Will a CD be released also?
It has been stated that there will not be a CD for purchase. If you really want a CD, download the mp3 files and burn them to your own CD.
Is this a new record or is this separate from MCR’s next album that Gerard spoke about in recent interviews such as the Spoilers With Kevin Smith interview?
No, this is a compilation of tracks from the scrapped record, the record the band was working on before they decided to refresh and start writing Danger Days. As we can tell from magazine articles, some of the songs were reworked and put on danger days, thus Conventional Weapons is only 10 songs rather than the 14-16 songs or so that a regular full length album tends to be. This is not the new record. This is the scrapped record from before Danger Days.
Does the release of the scrapped album/the track “The World Is Ugly” mean the band is breaking up?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. Frank made a blog post that you can view here, and he states that the band has decided that hiding this album and shoving it away on a shelf is no way to move on, thus they are releasing it. In the past, the band has said that the release of The World Is Ugly would be the end of the band (2008) and more recently (2010/2011) they have also said that they might release the scrapped album when the band was finished as a closing present. HOWEVER, the fact that they have just recently built an incredibly expensive studio of their very own in Los Angeles, California, and the fact that they’ve been talking about making and recording this new album for a very long time now, disproves and nullifies these previous statements.
